My stint on Bako Motorsports Power Hour

I appeared last week on the Bako Motorsports Power Hour for a short segment with host Louis Amestoy, who grilled me with "5 things that Logan Molen has to react to!" Thankfully, all were racing related, and I embarrassed myself only once.

My interview with Mario Andretti 

Mario Andretti's 1969 Champ Car win at Hanford Motor Speedway represented extreme highs and lows: a secret tire setup that left competitors in his dust and a freak pitlane accident that contributed to the death of a mechanic.

In a telephone interview from his Pennsylvania offices on Monday, Andretti recalled his five appearances at the Hanford tri-oval: a 1965 USAC stock car drive and four Champ Car races from 1967-1969 that resulted in one win, two third-place finishes and two DNFs from the third and fourth starting spots. He obviously found the speedway -- the rough 1.4-mile 1965 version and the renovated 1.5-mile late 1960s version -- a good match.

New section dedicated to history of Hanford race track

As I noted in a previous blog post and a story tracing the history of the track, Marchbanks remains a mystery to many race fans and Central Californians despite being one of the first big oval tracks on the West Coast and host to some of the greatest names and cars in the history of racing.

This is an unfinished history, and I welcome ideas, feedback, critiques, etc., in updating and expanding the story. I'm particularly interested in filling some of the gaps in the mid-to-late 1950s and any ownership change(s) in the early 1960s. I'll also be adding more to the topic as time permits, either through more research or interviews with the people who worked, crewed and raced there.
